The Argonaut: Kevlar and Tyvek Four-Season Boots

The Unbelievable Testing Laboratory is back with boots for the urban explorer.

Our friends at the UT.LAB have become quite the masters of shoe design and manufacturing. We’ve covered their earlier designs, Light Wing Trainer and Ninja. All of their shoes have featured synthetic materials that keep them ultra-lightweight.

Their newest creation, The Argonaut, follows in the footsteps (pun slightly intended) of its predecessors. Although it is a boot, instead of a shoe, it also makes use of modern synthetic materials to be incredibly light, water resistant, and handsome-looking.

Based on the pictures these boots look heavy. Similar-looking footwear would be quite heavy with full-grain leather, multi-layered insoles, dense rubber soles and perhaps even steel toe inserts. The Argonaut boots, on the other hand, weigh less than 420 grams each. So, you won’t feel like you’re clod stomping when wearing them. That’s probably why these boots are touted to be for the urban explorer. Who wants to wear heavy, sweaty boots around town?

Although one of the components of these boots is Kevlar, the material used in bullet-proof vests, of course they are not intended for such extreme conditions. The Kevlar, microfiber and Tyvek materials are chosen for their design, texture, light weight and water resistance — a good-looking combination.

As with their previous creations, the UT.LAB has created a project to quickly collect orders, manufacture and deliver the Argonaut. Given that they reached their minimum funding goal on the first day and have delivered on multiple projects, The Argonaut looks like it is going to be another winning design for the Unbelievable Testing Laboratory.
